Default GE Washing Machine fills tub too high
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WHDSR209D5WW
Age: 1 - 4 years

My washing machine tub fills too high. At first, it was on super capacity, it filled to high, though it stopped before overflowing. However, when it agitates, the water splashes into the overflow and down onto the floor. So we set it to Large, and now on large, it does the same thing. I suspect this has something to do with the pressure switch (WH12X10076), the pressure switch line, or the water pressure assembly on the tub. My first guess is to check the line for obstructions and disassemble the water pressure assembly on the tub and clean it out (though it is transparent and I don't see anything dirty in it. Most likely, it is a faulty pressure switch, which I think is a common and known problem for this model. Let me know if you agree with my assessment and what order of repair I should do. I think the easiest, though not cheapest approach is to just replace the pressure switch and see if that solves it.

Just an update. I replaced the switch and the switch line as described above. It worked for a while, but it is now doing it again. I still see a lot of sudsy water inside the little square box on the outer tub that the water level switch line connects to. I suspect is is dirty or gummed up. I am not going to replace the outer tub, too expensive.

I believe I saw a repair man pull the box off the outer tub and clean it out once before. I can't remember exactly. Is that something I can do? I tried, but I was afraid I'd damage it making the machine garbage. I can apply a lot more pressure with a screw driver, but I'm afraid it is permenantly attached and not really removable. Please let me know.

I cannot figure out how to pull off the box. I have filled the tub partially with warm water and a gallon of vinager. I am draining the tub though the water pressure assembly on the outer tub so that hopefully, the acidic water in the tub will dissolve any hardened minirals or whatever is causing the obstruction. Still, any other advise would be appreciated.
