I have read the same thing about some maytag washers, but my GE makes a loud noise when spinning. I am thinking the the tub bearing???? It';s not leaking though. I am an auto mechanic. Could I replace this on my own? There is not much I can't do on a car.
I have a GE clotheswasher, too. It makes all kinds of noise during the spin cycle. If I replace the tub bearing, is there anything else I should replace while I have it all torn apart? Thanks
Thanks Sheila, are there any parts that I should order besides the bearing? Should I replace the seal? Are the nuts reusable? I want to order everything before I tear it down, because it still works fine, just getting noisy.
Well, ordered tub bearing. It is just a washer. It was NOT bad. The bearing in the transmission is bad. Ordered the transmission. Installing today. If you have this type of washer and it is noisy when on spin cycle, you probably need a transmission. Not just a tub bearing. Order the split ring and nut (nut is left hand thread!) as you will most likely break them taking them off. The transmission comes with a tub seal so no need to order.
