Unhappy GE Washer makes clicking noises and won't agitate (sometimes)
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WBSE2090A2WW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My GE WBSE2090A2WW has started making clicking noises during the agitation cycle. Then it stopped agitating at all, then started up again. It seems to have trouble agitating with a larger load. At first it was spinning OK, but now the clicking happens during the spin cycle, too.

It fills and drains OK. I took the agitator apart and the coupler looks fine. I'm assuming it's the motor or something related.

Please give me advice and also instructions on how to get the front off to check inside.

Thanks for the help. Not what I wanted to hear, though.

Questions:

1) Is this the right motor? #PS783736

2) What type of "amprobe" do I need and where do I find it? Amprobe is a brand name.

3) Is this even worth it? The motor is $193 (plus the amprobe) and a new washer is less than $300.

Use putty knife and release top clips, then remove front panel.
Put amprobe on motor, you will see the motor current going up and down during agitate, this confirms you have a bad motor. Just remove and replace. This is a very common fairure for GE washer motors.

2) "Amprobe" is a brand. Please tell me what type of meter I'm looking for, where I can get it.

3) This motor is $193 plus I'll need the amprobe. Is this even worth it? The whole machine is less than $300.
