Default GE Washer
Brand: Please select
Age: Please select

Just moved into a new trailer, and it had a washer with it. I'm not sure on the model number right now, but it was bought in 2005. I can get more information tonight, but I'm not at home right now.

Anyways, I put a load in, may have been a little bigger than it should have been, although it wasn't that much. But either way, it was running fine, then it got to the spin cycle, and was going for a few minutes, then all of a sudden it started shaking violently. I went in and opened the lid, and the tub with the clothes, instead of being up to the rim tightly, was kind of leaning to one side and there was a big gap at the top.

Any idea on what might have been broken, and would it be something that could be easily fixed by buying a part and replacing it?

If you need any more information, please let me know and I'll get it for you tonight.

Thanks

It sounds to me like you had a unbalanced load, try it again first without overloading it. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

When it isn't loaded, it spins fine, and doesn't shake. When I barely load it, like 5 articles of clothing, it shakes a little. But if I add a towel or two to it after that, it starts to shake real violently.

Also, when it stops spinning(loaded or not), the basket is kind of leaning one direction, and it's enough that I can see a gap between the rim of the basket, and the top of the dryer, and I can see down into the empty space on the outside of the basket.

Is it possible something broke if it was overloaded or unbalanced, that is causing it to lean like this. B/c everything works, and it would probably work perfectly if it wasn't leaning to one side like it is.

Well, I guess just opening it up and figuring it out yourself is the best way to go about fixing things. Opened up the front cover. Whatever those 4 rods are that hold the basket in. One of the ends came out of the metal bracket, and a metal piece holding the basket "hopped" over a small metal piece on the bottom. 20 minutes later, it's fixed :-D.

How about looking around that washer for a model # for me. It could be on the back of the washer, or it could be on the left or right side of the bottom close to the front, and I will know what model you have and give you a suggestion or two. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
