Default Frigidaire stacked washer/dryer stopped working, smells burned
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: unsure
Age: Please select

Our stacked washer/dryer stopped in the middle of the wash cycle today and a bad burned smell came from the unit. The dryer will not turn on either. (We double checked the fuses and power outlet are fine). The washer is still full of water and moving the dials and switches does not make it produce any noise or movement at all.

Any tips?

Can you please supply your model number?

It should be on a tag on the left side of the dryer opening.

If neither the washer or the dryer will work it is likely a burnt wire.

I just had a chance to look - it is model #FLSG72GCSA, and it is a gas dryer (I didn't know this, it came with the house and I have never looked). I shut off the gas valve going in, to be safe.

Also, I should mention the dryer was not running when the breakdown occurred, only the washer, and it was in the wash cycle full of water, presumably agitating.

I opened a panel with slats on it on the back at the lower right part of the dryer (on the right as I was standing looking at the back) and looked in, there was a lot of oil on surfaces including a copper wire coil and on a drum like area to the left of the opening. I don't know if that is normal. I have posted some photos here, but it's not easy to see:

Thank you in advance for any help!

You will have to check the wiring in the control panel.

I don't see anything wrong with the dryer motor.
