Default Frigidaire front load washer making noise
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: fwt449gfs2
Age: 5 - 10 years

My washer started making a clunking noise when on high sping. I removed the back cover and there seems to be some front to rear play (a few mm) at the bearing. I am not sure if this is normal or not. I can mimic the noise when moving the wheel attached to the bearing, but not sure if that is the culprit. The inside drum seems to be a bit lower than what I thought it was at one time in it's life. Is there anything else I can check or is it a done deal? I have seen some posts that say it could be the lower shock absorbers. I just put the machine back together and put a light load in. I see the front of the drum has movement when the cycle is running with more movement noticed the faster the drum is spinning.

Did you get anywhere with this? My wife is complaining that our washer is making a chirping noise. Does this sound familiar?

I read another post that says you can replace the rear bearing.

A chirp was the start. By my research, and I apologize I no longer have the information with me, the bearing is a part of the outer tub unit - thus replacement of just the bearing was not possible. Cost to get parts (and hoping I was getting what I needed and didn't run into anything else) was almost $300. Thus, I have sent my machine to the scrap yard. I would suggest doing a search on google with your machine part number and you should be able to find an exploded view of the parts.

I found the exploded view and think I see the part that I would need. If it is truly a bearing then it comes as an assembly for the super low price of $200.

I guess I'll run it and see if it gets worse or until it fails. Thanks for the help.
