Angry At end of Rinse sometimes will not Spin
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 110.28912790
Age: 5 - 10 years

Sorry, yet another "won't spin thread". This is a direct drive whirlpool type washer. To minimize our washer downtime, at first I tried the shotgun approach on this, and just replaced the motor coupler and the clutch assembly. The motor coupler didn't look at that bad, clutch looked a little worn. Put it all back together and same thing. I read more and this time, I took out the inner basket (wrestled with the basket nut for about an hour...). Some gunk, but not too bad. I cleaned it out, and put it back together. Still same problem. I am spending more time troubleshooting now before dropping $100 on a basket drive. Seems like at the end of the rinse (when it will spin and add water in bursts), the tub will not spin sometimes eventhough the I can hear the motor. At that time, if I try to move the tub, it feels like the brake is stuck or something, and it is very hard to move. If open lid switch then close it again, or if I pull timer and push back in, it sounds like the brake is releasing, or the tranny is engaging, then it spins just fine. I would appreciate any input! Thanks.

Anyone? Ideas? Think its the basket drive? Anyway to diagnosis that? Or could it even be the timer? Transmission? Thanks!

I am in the same boat as you. I have tried all the same steps but have noticed that it could be a possible shift kit needed. I see this as a newer issue, however in mine I took it all apart and found the shifter in mine still in good shape. This is in the gearcase and is very very oily and messy.

I ended up buying a rebuilt transmission off ebay. It did not solve the problem. I found some other threads on another forum that lead me to believe it was possibly the motor, the motor startup capacitor, or the timer itself. Lucky for me, my friend bought a new set of front loading machines, and gave me his old top loader. So after about $100 investment trying to fix my machine, I gave up. Good luck to you!
