Default Does not spin
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 11023032101
Age: 5 - 10 years

When the washer goes through the cycle, it runs fine till it needs to spin. I have replaced a broken coupler. I have jumped the door switch and when I put into the spin cycle, I can manually spin the tub to get it started in the cycle. My question is do I need to replace the complete basket drive / brake assembly, or can I just replace the clutch which I believe is the root cause of my problem.

Is the motor trying to spin it or does it just quit? Does it spin really slow when you try it? Sorry to tell you but from experience that sounds like a bad transmission.

When I help to get it started, it will spin at the normal speed. The motor continues to run when it gets to the spin cycle.

How do you check the transmission to tell if it needs to be replaced?

I would replace the basket drive. If you use alot of fabric softener, the spin tube is probably all gumed up. Before you replace the spin tube, I would take the cabinet off, the splash guard off, the agitator off, and then the tub, and clean the spin tube. While you have it apart, jump out the lid switch at the harness, that would be putting a jumper wire in the first hole on the left, and the first hole on the right, leaving the middle hole alone. That would jump out the switch so you can watch it before you put it back together. If it doesn't work replace the basket drive. If I could help you, you can reach me at ApplianceEducator.com Tom
