Question Constant unbalanced load issues
Brand: Kenmore

A dear friend of mine is always upset about her washer. It seems to function okay except that she always has to stop it at least once to re-balance the load, otherwise it bangs mercilessly against the machine.

I've watched her do this many times. She's not overfilling and it's not one specific condition - not a heavy blanket or anything. What causes this phoenomena? If there are damaged parts she can't tell. I'm sure she'll have a repair person out there before long - what do you reckon he's going to tell her?

One of the things to check is the levelling pins or legs. Most appliances have these at the four corners on the bottom. If one or more is out of kilter, it will start banging around. They need to be tight and level to the floor.

The other thing with my washer is if I only have one big item. For instance a comforter. If it manages to get all crumpled up on one side of the agitator, my washer goes nuts.

Aha! Thank you sinamin! D'oh!! I didn't even think about that. I bet she hasn't checked the levelling pins in the back. I'm calling her right now before she has a chance to call the repair guy - maybe this will do the trick.

You know HomeGirl, I just read something else. I noticed your friend has a kenmore and mine is as well so I looked in the troubleshooting section of my manual to see if said anything else.

It said to check the agitator to see if it wobbles when you turn it by hand. If it does, this is not right and some parts need replacing.

After your friend checks the "level", maybe she will need to check that agitator.

Thanks for the tip sinamin. I think she has messed with the agitator some; but I am not sure if she was looking specifically for it to wobble. She was excited when I told her about the leveling at the base - I haven't heard back from her to see if she found anything, though.
