Default Clothes Still Wet
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAH4000AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

The washing machine finishes and the clothes are still wet. I removed back of machine and checked pump and it is not clogged. Motor adgitates the drum in both directions during rinse cycle and the pump does pump water out at this time. I don't see any high speed spin occur. Does this happen with the same belt that causes adgitation or must I look elsewhere?

Yes there is only one belt on the washer.

If you are not getting the spin check the door to see if is locking.

If the door is not locking the washer will not spin.

This could be caused by a faulty door lock wax motor.

Here is a link to your washer model MAH4000AWW.

The wax motor and control board failed several years ago and I believe the symptom was different. This time the door locks and the Door Lock light goes on. During this time I can not open the door. When evrything is completed the Door Lock Light goes out and the door can then be opened. I thought that the problem this time may be the Motor and Motor Control Board. This might be an updated retrofit for my machine. Does this seem like a good possibility?

Could this also be a door lock switch assembly? I have the same model and the same thing is happening. The drum tumbles but won't spin and the door lock light won't come on.

Dawn:

The switch could fail, but it is the least likely component to fail. The switch can be checked with an ohm meter. If the switch fails and the motor works then the door will not open even though the door lock light is not lit. If the Door Lock does not actually lock the door closed because the motor failed, the light will not be ON and the door can be opened. Your problem then is probably the wax motor. When the wax motor fails, it is recommended that the Control Panel Board be replaced as well as this probably failed as well. There is probably a burned out component that yoou can see on this board when it is removed. This is the board behind the dials and switches at the top of the machine. Maytag had a class action suit on this problem several years ago and lost the case. Poor design.
