Unhappy Clicking wont spin
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 20882-990
Age: 1 - 4 years

My washer started making a clicking noise during agitation. I made sure it wasn't too full, even removed all clothes and set to spin. It will not spin or agitate now. It has a burnt plastic smell from the clicking noise.

Can you tell me how to fix?

Thank you.

The coupler that joins the motor and transmission has like broke.

Tip the washer toward the wall and check for white plastic and black rubber piece.

If you find this you will need to replace the coupler.

Here is a link to the parts of your washer model 11020882990.

Here is the coupler.

Default not coupler

I took the motor off and removed the coupler and it looked fine. I took it to the repair part store and they said it was fine, not broken. They said it could possibly be the dog ears, but I can't get the agitator off to replace them. What I can see of them, does not look bad though. It appears they still have good teeth and will grip when I manually turn the agitator. Is there something else it could be? Or can you tell me how to get to the dog ears on this model? I can remove the agitator cap. Inside the cap there is a square opening with a bolt under it. There is nothing to grip the bolt with. I can put something in the square but I can't get it to turn or release the agitator.

Thank you.

the washer turns off after the clicking noise goes for a minute or two. I had someone else look at it and it will work if it is in the heavy duty mode but not regular or delicate agitate mode. It is not the dog ears. I managed to get the agitator off and replace those. Could it be a relay, and is there some easy way to determine where?

Thank you.

Sounds like your low speed motor winding is burnt out, either that or a bad timer..
To cofirm, put an amprobe on low speed winding motor wire and check current.

Just posted a very similar story today, because never found the solution or answer here. I know my coupler is bad, but is that the problem and repair for the clicking and why it would only work in heavy duty mode?

What you need is the agitator dogs. It is easy to check. Grab the agitator top and turn it to the right and to left, if the bottom of the agitator does not turn when you do that, you need agaitator dogs. If you need me to walk you through the repair, you could reach me at my web site, at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

If the dogs are fine, you could have a clutch problem, where the motor on delicate will not drive the product. Tom
