Default Changing suspension spring
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: PAV2200AWW
Age: 5 - 10 years

One of my suspension springs rusted and came off the washer. Now the washer shakes all over the place and comes unbalanced. I already have the new spring, but haven't been able to install it. Is there a special tool to stretch it to where it hooks onto the tub? I just can't physically do it! Help!

Put the spring on one end, then tilt the tub towards the place you need to attach the spring, clamp a pair of visegrips on that end and push the plyers down till you hook the spring on

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, but I don't think that will work unfortunately. Because of the curve of the one end of the spring, you have to hook the bottom first. I have been tilting the tub towards where the spring hooks on as far as it goes, and using various tools to pry the spring up. I can get the spring at the correct level this way, but it has to be turned about 90 degrees to hook on to the tub, which I can't do. Any other ideas?
Thanks again.

Change all springs at one time. THERE is a special tool for this job and if done improperly and one spring is stretched, you will have balance issues. We use the Maytag spring tool and it's a breeze.
The tool is cheap and is available from PartSelect.
If part number unknown, email me and I'll see if I can find.

I'm not having any luck either on the website or by phone in locating the tool. If you have any suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks.

I am in BC and just got home, will try and pull a part number when back in shop thurs am.

OH, here it is: 22002922 Spring tool.
The tool works well. Set it for for the lowest setting and then put an elastic band around it (not too tight one). That, will keep it together when putting the new springs in. without the elastic band it's hard to handle.
