Default Can't get broken control knob off
Brand: KitchenAid
Model Number: KAWE670B
Age: More than 10 years

The black knob on the right side that controls the wash cycle has broken. It's no longer racheted so it just spins without changing the cycle position.

I can't get it off to replace it. I don't see a set screw so I don't know what's holding it in place. I've pulled on the knob itself and the plastic disk behind it. Neither budged.

thanks,

Cliff

The knob is screwed on to the timer shaft.

It is the timer that will have to be replaced.

Can you please supply the last three digits of your model number?

Here is what the timer looks like.

Thank you for your reply and for the pic. I can't find the model no. I've looked in the front, the sides and the back. Could it be on the bottom?

It appears that the black knob is broken off from the black cylinder that is connected to the brass threads in your picture. I can still select the cycle by rotating the 2.5 inch disk that is behind the knob. Apparently this disk is still connected to the timer via the black cylinder.

If I had a very thin (<.25") wrench, I could probably unscrew the black cylinder from the timer, but I don't so I can't.
