Default Broken clutch?
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: WWA7800RBL
Age: More than 10 years

My old GE washer was making a horrible sound and stopped spinning the tub. I pulled the back off, removed the motor and found the clutch/brake assembly had self destructed. How difficult are these to take apart and rebuild? Any instructions online?

The roll pin in the shaft seems stuck as well. Any tips on getting these loose? PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench?

You will need a pin driving tool (punch) to remove the pin.

Liquid wrench may help.

You will need a puller to remove the clutch drum and pulley assembly.

Once you have this apart you will be able to tell the other parts that you will require.

Before you replace any parts make sure that the washer is not leaking oil.

Where your washer is going on twenty years old and anything could go.

Here is a breakdown of your washer model WWA7800RBL.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to get it all apart this evening and see the parts that need replacing. PLATE ASM CLUTCH BASE, SPRING CLUTCH LEAF and a couple of SPRING LOCK IN SHOES
You mention oil, but where should I check for leaking oil? Transmission? I didn't see any oil on the floor. Just a lot of rubber dust everywhere.

Yes the oil would be coming from the transmissions center seal.

But if you don't see any this is good.
