this is a front loading washer and last night i walk into the room to find all the water on the floor.

around the inside of the door is a rubber seal held in place by a thin metal ring that had apparently popped off. I couldn't stretch the ring back into place, i am calling for service but they haven't gotten back to me.

My question is;

would a tech have a special tool for this, or is this something i should be able to save myself the hassel and do myself.

It is best if you have a technician because there is a new style of gasket that address the issue of the gasket coming off.

There are a few different types and it will depend on your serial number.
