Angry Belt broken (burned) - brake bad??
Brand: Amana
Model Number: 7WD70AW
Age: 5 - 10 years

I am attempting a repair on my daughter's Amana Commercial Quality washing machine. Initially, I quickly noticed the broken belt and discovered that it had burned in one spot before breaking. I noticed that there are broken brake pieces around the drive pully at the base of the tub so I assume that perhaps the tub had locked up, the belt quit turning and the motor drive pulley had burned and broken the belt.

I am unable to get a hit on any web site on the model number I found on the washing machine. I have tried searching on shortened model numbers, switching a zero for an O, searching on the Mfgr# PLWD70AW........all to no avail. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

OK.......after comparing some other model numbers on this web site, I've found a hit on a modification of the Mfgr#, and believe that my model number may be LWD70AW.

Does anyone know what may have caused the brake pads to break apart (some pieces are still wedged into the grove in the pully)....I'd hate to install new pads just to find out that something else caused the problem to start with. Also, do you have to remove the entire motor assembly, remove the pump, etc., to install a new drive belt??
