Post Bad Spin Cycle
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: LSR8010PQ2
Age: Please select

The spin cycle is bad. About a month ago, the basket would continue to spin at the end of the cycle with a loud TAP-TAP-TAP (Like a ratchet).

Now, the spin cycle will not start unless the basket is empty and you have to shake the basket to get it to start. There was a slight smell of rubber.

Any hints on what to replace at a minimum?

Where is a good sketch or detail of what the parts are?

Thanks ahead of time for the help!

I'd check the coupling on this, normaly when you have to start the spin by hand this is the cause of the problem. Its a 3 pice plastic part #13 on your model in this "Brake, Clutch, Motor and Gear Case" parts breakdown...

Whirlpool LSR8010PQ2 Parts List

I'm sorry but I'm going to be lazy about typing you out step by step instructions for checking and changing it. Its easy to do, but a lot of typing to get you there.

Here are other posts already typed out explaining this, model number may be different but the instructions directly apply to you...

Could be a problem in the clutch or brake assembly as well, but you'll need to get to the coupling steps to get any further anyhow so may as well start by just checking the coupling. Clutch/brake assembly repairs aren't fun if you've never done it before. They sell "direct drive washer repair" books with detailed instructions and pictures that would likely help you the best if you did happen to have to go that far. Its rather involved, the coupling is easy (and cheap), just somewhat involved in explaining, but those other posts should get you through it.

Read first, will make no sense to you of course, then follow through the steps, it will make sense to you as you go along and are actually doing it.

Sounds to me like the inside tub nut is loose. I had this problem with an old kenmore and it would spin and spin, but not stop, or spin up slowly. Replaced the tub nut under the agitator and it worked fine. Could also be the brake or clutch units. This is not a coupler issue. If the machine will agitate, and all the other cycles including drain, but not spin then it is not the coupler.
