Default Atlantis Spins/Shakes
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAV6260AWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

We just had the transmission replaced in our maytag toploader. Now whenever it goes into the spin cycle it vibrates and thumps, dancing across the floor. We try to run small loads and redistribute the clothes, but this happens EVERY TIME. We have a solid, level tile floor. I took the front off and nothing appears broken. We even had the repairman back out, he said it might be the suspension springs. They don't look sprung or broken. I have not measured it with a level, but it sits on all four feet evenly (it doesn't rock on its feet). Ideas?

Your repair man should have replaced the brake pads and stator when he assembled the tranny to the tub!!@@. Go to Maytag Performa for info.
This is my best guess for this problem. Or.... he could have put a bad tranny in!!
Pull belt and turn tranny pully till tub spins. It should be smooth with no jerks or noises. If so=bad tranny. Please post results I am very interested in your problem.
You also can turn washer upside down, turn tranny pully and look for busted brake shoes comming out.

I'll check the tranny tonight, thanks.
Last night I was messing with the washer and noticed, when you look down into the tub, the tub leans a bit off center from the top cover. It leans to the right about an inch. I can grab it by the tub cover and pull it back to level, but then it slowly settles back out of position. I ran it on spin for a bit, then checked again and it leaned the same way. Could that be my problem? If so, does it mean the suspension springs are bad?

Okay, I checked the tranny and it turns smoothly. Any other thoughts?

You probably have one weak spring, or one not put on right.

After watching this thing fly around the laundry room all weekend, with the front off and various loads, I'm convinced you're correct.
The springs look easy enough to change. Anything I shold look out for if I DIY?

Just to update everyone. I changed the springs (a painful and bloody task). But this solved my problem. I also ordered new sounds dampener pads. Anyone know where these go or how to install?
