Default Another won't drain issue
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 1107204903A
Age: More than 10 years

it fills , it agitates and will not drain. I seem to hear the clunk ( reversing motor-right--to pump out), seem to hear what I guess is a pump, and them smell a little burning smell, does not pump any water out--------------havent used washer in 10 years but was remember it working then-----have no reason to suspect timer----thoughts please

UPDATE--

got inside and disconnected hose going up from the filter and gravity emptied the tub thru the filter so hose going down must be clear----took the retainer off the filter assembly expecting it to seperate and i didnt so dont know what its retaining----filter look unglugged and clear

after draining the tub manually i turned it on and i was able to get it to spin with the top down and quit when lifted top so the switch appears not to be problem

so now aggitates and spins and doesnt drain---water drained down via gravity when messed with filter but water not going vertical to the exiting drain hose----------------is this starting to sound like a pump---i hope not

Update 2:

I dont see anyway that a sock etc could get between tub and drum and get sucked into the pump to clog itso I'm ruling that out---did see what appeared to be a lot of sediment in the manifold that water runs thru and ties into the pump but perhaps that a filtrations system

since i see belt on teh drive mech I guess now this is not a direct drive---by elimination I'm feeling timer or sillenoid or maybe something electrical or the pump itself but the pump is working to fill the machine

anything I can visually watch for with the back cover off to shed any light

any and all thoughts appreciated--I'm stumped

If your washer has a belt on it, it's very old. If so your pump is seized and needs replaced. Do not run till you replace the pump, or you will burn up belt and that's real hard to change

this machine goes back to 1973-------------was in storage and not used for 10 years till now---can they sieze sitting up ?---was working then------there is a pully at the top of the pump and the whole mech seems hard to take out----if i can turn the pully both directions would that not suggest its not siezed??---

i keep hearin about sox ete getting into the pump to clog it but i just dont see how that can happen--no apparant access from inner tub to outter drumm---no gap?

I find socks, wash clothes very large buttons ect and I don't know how they get there either. The washer you have, I have worked on for over25 years. those pumps rely on packing material & grease to keep from leaking. If left sitting for long periods the grease dries up and hardens, and the belt might slip over the smooth pulley with out turning the pump, making a stinky burning rubber smell.
I used to take the pump off and oil & regrease the pump and they would work another season, but it is only a temporary fix. also the flaper valve that diverts the pump water flow can be defective, so if every thing else good, it should pump water. If not buy a pump

lol---i guess after 25 years you cant figure how socks, panties, etc get inbetween the inner tub and outer drum I guess I never will----seems impossible but get this pump off to even look to find nothing inside looks like a job since its belt driven----not even sure i could find a motor for this old one and even if so hardly even worth the money and time as old as it is and for what i can pick up a used one---thanks for your input,Betty

betty---i just hate top trash the machine since it washes and spins-----------you said putting a new belt on is difficult----i dont need a new belt---but wont i have to take the belt off to get the pump off to either replace or to oil and grease as you suggested?------is there any sure way to tell if its the pump and not that deverter or anything esle thats the problem------------if the pump is pumping and my problem is something esle should i how be able to feel suction at a drain hose----------i just poured a tub of water into the washer and it drained somewhere out of the tube but didnt pump out the drain hose---does that tell u anything

is there anything that triggers the activation of the pump that might be faulty-----thank you

Dabba Dooo
#1 if the old pump were to go bad,(you know burn the belt in two) changing the belt requires partialy removing the transmission. but you said yours is O K.#2 your pump is a cyntrifical type pump,( has no sucktion, unless when it's submerged in water)#3the dirvertor if that's your problem, is inside the pump, not serviceable(replace pump). If it spins it has to pump, if not bad pump

betty, you have convinced me its prob a bad pump and I'll prob buy one now but before putting that much money into this old a washer i sure would like to be able to eliminate wigwag issues

it seems to be moving freely but running trying to hit all cycles with the timer i can only get it running on just 1 or the 2 levels of the slot

a) on that level when the tub is spinning
b) belts turning and its running on that same level when its not spinning----i"m
guessing thats the drain cycle------do the spin and drain both operate on
same level of the slot????

i cant get it to run up to the other level of the slot. Can i presume this other level is the agitate/wash level??? Before I moved it from the wall to work on it it was agitating---now i dont have it hooked up to water lines and i cant get it to agitate----should i be able to without water in it--------- before i buy the pump just want to make sure i havent messed up anything thats causing it to not agitate now

if that other level of the wigwag slot for agitating---anything i can do manually to get it up on that level or what triggers it

just want to make sure wigwag is ok before getting that pump

thanks for all you help and opinion

When you wash, the wig-wag is energised, and shifts the tranny to agitate, at the same timethe flapper diverts the flow away from draining. then when its through washing, it shifts the flapper back to pump out water, and then if lid is down, and lid switch is activated, it will spin. ok? Now I have a dozen of those old obsolete pumps sitting on a shelf,I hope I never have to replace another one.
Aba daba, are you going to talk about that antique of yours with the most expensive pump ever, and then the tub is gonna rust thru, and the timer will go next,(if you can find one). Or are you gonna get a modern one ? Writing threads is not getting you no where!!!! Betty boop

Default replaced the pump---still not draining?????

really didnt think was the pump but replaced anyway and hoped-------still not draining---------got to think the door switch is good since it will spin-------the shifter gears seem free on the wigway and I do see one arm move at the end of cycle---can only suspect thats the arm that moves the lever on the pump-------its the wig-wag arm on the right looking at from the back-------other arm doesnt seem to move---is it supposed to?????----------does that 1 wig-wag arm both open and close the lever on the pump????????----------dumb move investing $$ in the old washer -now I got to try to salvage it----------any ideas anyone---thanks----------agitated and spins fine, just no drain
