Default Another Maytag Spin Problem
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: Performa
Age: 5 - 10 years

The motor is fine, it engages and starts turning the belt. The drum goes about a half turn and locks (Clockwise I think, it is all reletive). Of course this makes the belt warm and smell just ducky...

If I take the belt off and can spin thepulley freely in one direction and it locks in the other.

I am thinking that my transmision has died... Any other ideas?

Thx - brad

On performa's, your problem is usually caused by a worn pulley ramp. there's a small ramp on the pulley,(plastic pulley models) over time it wears down a little bit.
the purpose of that ramp, is to relese the spin brake so it can spin. i've replaced dozens of these. The kit comes with all the parts you'll need, pretty easy for a do-it your selfer , the repair kit is reasonably priced!! bettyboop
