Default Amana Washer will agitate and drain but will not spin
Brand: Amana
Model Number: ALW880QAW
Age: 5 - 10 years

My Amana washer will not spin. when it gets to the spin cycle it trys to spin, but the agitator wheel stops. When it was spinning it made a loud whirling noise almost like a jet engine spinning up. When it quit spinning it burned the belt through.

Tip the washer and try to turn the transmission pulley by hand counter clockwise.

If the pulley will not turn you likely have a seized drum bearing.

Here is a link to your washer model ALW880QAW.

Is there a secret to getting the drive bell off?

You have to remove the motor and the pump.

Take the pump off the motor and put belt on so the belt is around the back leg of the pump.

How do you get the part off that the agitator connects to (inside the tub)? I have tried to pull it off and it will not budge.

There is a bolt that is holding it in place.

Take the plug out of the top of the drive bell to access the bolt.

It is on a splined shaft and you may need a puller to remove it.
