Default Amana Burning Drive Belt
Brand: Amana
Model Number: PALW780QAW
Age: 5 - 10 years

Amana PALW780QAW- I recently replaced a failed drive belt on this machine but on inspection it appears that the belt has failed again (after 2 weeks of use). It appears that the belt has significant damage in two areas, indicating that the motor drive pulley appeared to be “burning” the belt while being held in a static position. I have inspected the central hub assembly, which seems to rotate freely, and the central drive pulley, which does not show signs of damage or distress. The idler pulley shows minor wear along the upper retaining ridge. This wear is indicative of long-term use, but should not be a source that would cause the belt to hang or drag. The inner surface of the motor drive pulley shows minor build-up of rubber build-up. The inner tub rotates freely without any obvious signs of a bearing failure, and the agitator rotates in the opposite direction freely when the motor is reversed.

Can you offer advice as to what might be causing the belt to bind around the motor drive pulley?

It sound like the idler pulley may not be putting enough tension on the belt in the spin cycle.

Can you please verify your model number as I can't locate it in our database?
