Default Agitator and Post Assembly
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: pav2300
Age: 1 - 4 years

I Purchased part# 21001878 because the original part separated and stopped agitating.
The new part was in service a for about 1-week and the same thing happened.
The center core separated from the outer auger.
Am I missing something?

Yes, you are. When that happens, you replace the base, and the auger. If you need me you can reach me at my website at ApplianceEducator.com Tom

I replaced just the agitator. There appears to be nothing wrong with the base. It has two parts to the assembly. The center is what is bolted to the base and the outer auger rotates on it. It only rotates one direction.
These two parts are now separated and the auger just floats on the surface of the water. The same think happened to the old part, thats why I replaced it.
Should there be something holding this auger assembly together?

The base sits down on the shaft of the transmission, and the auger mounts to the top of the base. Are you sure that you have the washer on the other side of screw. If not the auger will slip up right over the top of it. Tom
