I would like to replace the inlet water valve in my washer since it does not shut off tightly anymore. My question is how does the cabinet comes apart so that I have access to the valve. I've tried releasing the clips at the botton of the front panel which was difficult to do. I'm looking at how the front panel is secured at the top and it appears there are another set of clips plus small sheet metal screws which are very inaccessible with the front panel slightly open. Am I headed in the right direction in dissassembling the cabinet from the front or should I be starting from the back??

You should be able to access the fill valve by lifting the top of the washer.

Use a putty knife to release the spring clips that hold the top down.
