Question 2003 Neptune has VERY noisy spin
Brand: Maytag
Model Number: MAH5500
Age: 5 - 10 years

My apologies for the initial post being misplaced...
I bought my Maytag Neptune MAH5500 Washer/Dryer Combo new in 2003. Since, I have had recalls on both machines and have had so many drain pump assemblies that it is rediculous! Now my washer, that is supposed to be known for being super quiet, sounds like a MAC truck! Pardon the pun but seriously, it sounds fine when running through the wash and rinse cycles but once it hits the spin, it gets outrageously loud - a real ear piercing whirring. This happens whether the machine is in "Max Extract" mode or not. The machine functions properly, it's just that sound - what could it be?

Thanx in advance,
~Ling

Your drum bearings have failed, Soapy water has leaked into the bearings thru a bad seal and rusted the bearings. you have to replace the tub halfs that contain new bearings & seal

While Im hunting down my warranty info, do you think this is something covered by some type of warranty? And what seals could leak - possibly my pump assembly seal from the last time I had it replaced about a yr ago??? Grrr these machines are pains

THE SEALS KEEP THE SOAPY WATER OUT OF THE BEARINGS(bearing seals) are
on the shaft with the bearings, they protect the bearings from water damage. this happens with all front loaders in 3-5 years. front loaders are very expensive to maintain. they cost a lot to operate. Some drum and bearing repair kits costs 200.00 to 300.00$ plus labor 150.00 to 200$ just from my experience.
