Default Why is fridge freezing everything?
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: PSS25MGNAWW
Age: 1 - 4 years

Our side-by-side freezes everything even though we have the controls set to the lowest for both the freezer and the fridge. A while back, the water lines actually froze on the fridge side, and the filter cracked. We cleaned up the mess, turned the controls way down, and replaced the filter. The freezer wouldn't make ice, the water wouldn't dispense, the crisper was freezing all the fruits & veggies, and liquids were freezing. So, we turned both controls down to 1. We started getting ice in the ice maker and water dispensed, but lettuce was still freezing. I'm not sure if it's a sensor or the main board or if a line's plugged somewhere or something else.

Anyone have any suggestions?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it opens and closes when you adjust the fridge temp. Some have mechanical controls that just open it. Others are remotely controlled by the control panel when you put the temp. in you want.

OK, so is there a way to test the damper, or do I just replace it? I've looked at my schematic, and it looks like the damper is part of a motor.

Does the damper open when you select a colder fridge setting. Does it close when you select a warmer setting. Can you move the door manually. The control board controls it and if the door isn't stuck or disconnected from the controls the problem is the board.

I'm going to take apart the shroud that covers the motor and damper. Its mounted to the inside-top of the fridge right in the middle, so it's not between the freezer and fridge like I would have thought.

Right now, both sides are set to "1". So, if I turn the temp control higher (which will make it colder) I should hear/feel/see the damper open? I hadn't thought about cranking it higher to get the damper moving.
