Default Whirlpool water dispensor leaking
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED22PWXXW00
Age: More than 10 years

My ever dependsable Whirlpool ED22PWXXW00 has its' water dispensor leaking.
I have turned off the water to the unit (icemaker won't be making any new ice)
to stop the leaking. When the water dispensor is depressed I hear a click at the rear of the unit. Perhaps this relay is bad?

Has anyone had any experience with this malfunction?
Is it simple to repair?

Thanks,
Aram Bayzaee

It may be the valve at the back of the fridge is not closing all the way this would cause it to leak.

The water pressure going the the fridge must be at least 15 psi to close the valve.

Most water lines are installed with what is known as a saddle valve. this could be causing your problem.

Sheila,
I've looked at all the diagrams for my unit...I can't find any water lines or saddle valves. Can you help me find the diagram and part that may be in need of repair. When I push the dispensor I do hear a clicking sound that triggers the water line at the rear. I've disconnected the relay, but the unit still operates...so I do think the valve is bad...I just can't find the part on my fridge or on the diagrams.

The water line and saddle valve are not a part of the fridge.

They are part of the plumbing in your house.

If the water inlet valve is bad you will need to order this.

Sheila,
Thanks for the photo and desc. Strange that the valve is not a part of the fridge? It this a universal part??? If so, what is the cost, part number, and is it in stock. I do feel this is the problem with the unit.
Thanks.

If you click on the picture you will find the part number and price.

This is a part of your fridge but it is a replacement part.

The saddle valve that I was talking about is attached to the line in your house.
