Unhappy Whirlpool side by side frig
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ES5PHAXSL00
Age: Less than 1 year

hi all,

i have a wonderful new energy star whirlpool frig.
but since i've had it the frig side is warm
i have the slider all the way to the right ( coldest setting)
but it keeps a temp of 48 to 55 degs

the frezer works very well, ice and all

i've read several items about a defrost setting and de-iceing the vents and
i'm lost

i fix cars , in fact i do A/C work on them so there might be a chance to teach me a new trick

our hearts are broken over this , we waited several years to get this new whirlpool

the only reason to scrap the old one was its age
our old whirlpool was 20 so odd years old i don't see this one making that kind of record
thank you for any help

kenny

This is covered under warranty From the symptoms, it could be anything!
Check the damper vent in the fridg section, if closed jam open 1/2 way and disconnect plug to it.
Check the freezer temperature on the back wall and post.

Check your manual for appropriate adjustments. My older model Whilrpool refirgerator has instructions inside of the refrigerator. It tells you how to adjust refrigerator and freezer when either is too cold or too warm. It also might bepend on the weather temperature and humidity. If you have already tried this:
1) It sounds like a manufacturers defect and should be covered under your warrantee.
2) It could be the fan in the refrigerator. In my model, it transfers the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator. It is in the back of the refirgerator behind a plastic removable panel. When the fan went bad, the refrigerator became too warm, but the freezer stayed cold. I also had ice buildup behidn the refrogerator along the area where the tubing from the ice maker comes out.
3) It could be the defroster coil in the (frost-free) freezer. Check the back of your refrigerator or inside the freezer (is there a hole in the back panel on the iside of the freezer--move food around to see if you find one--see if there is ice buildup in there. I had this happen to a sode by side refirg once. If yo find this, turn off your refrig and use a hairdryer to melt the ice buildup before. I learned this the hard way. I paid the serviceman by the hour to do this. It is best to get this ice melted before coing anything further, whether you fix it or someone else does.

Hope this is helpful
