Question Whirlpool Refrigerator Icemaker

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator model ED5NHA. The icemaker has stopped working. This sometimes happens if something is blocking the sensor. I can usually readjust items in the freezer and it will start working again but this did not work this time. Any suggestions?

To check the Optics open the freezer door and actuate the freezer door switch 3 times with in ten seconds.

Close the freezer door within 20 seconds of completing the above.

Wait for at least 2 seconds then open the freezer door and view the diagnostic LED on the infrared receiver module for the error code.

If you get two pulses a pause then two pulses and then 5 seconds on the emitter and receiver are fine.

Check the solenoid valve at the back of the fridge.

Here is a link to your fridge model ED5NHA.

ranemb, I work on these all the time. There is a real easy way to check this out. Open the freezer door, and open the flap that covers the ice maker. There are prongs that turn around and knock the ice out. They are white. These prongs should be facing you. If they are not facing you, and are facing the back wall of the frezzer, or they are stuck in the bottom of the icemaker, that would mean the icemaker is gone. Whirlpool makes an Ice maker head to replace that. If the prongs are facing you, there could be two problems 1 the lazer sensing kit or the water line is frozen. To check the water line, when looking at the icemaker the black tube to the right is where the water comes in. I want you to squeeze the black rubber tube. If you can squueze it then replace the lazer kit if you can't then it is frozen. Get a blow dryer, and defrost it. If you need any instruction on replacing the icemaker head or the lazer kit, or part numbers. Tom
