Default Whirlpool overflowing water in ice maker
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED25RFXFW01
Age: 5 - 10 years

All indications that I have searched, says that I should replace the water valve inlet.

I have taken this part off and measured the resistance.
Ice maker .171 Green in color
Water dispenser .340 Blue in color. Meter set at 2K.
Are these normal parameters, or could this be bad?

There is also a timer in the ice maker that comes on for about 7 seconds to turn the water on. This seemed to cycle normally, as checked with a volt meter when cycling.

Are one of these items more prone to malfunctions then the other?

I have noticed water on the floor before, but did not know where it came from.
Other night I saw it coming from the ice maker, overflowing.

Thanks for any responses, look forward to your replies.

Tom

If water is coming in to the ice maker and you are getting water to the dispenser the fill valve is good electrically.

If the ice maker is over flowing this means that the valve is not closing as it should.

The valve is closed by water pressure so if the water pressure is low at the valve it will stay opened.

Here is a link to your fridge model ED25RFXFW01.

Thanks for the reply Sheila,

You make a good point about water pressure.

Do you think that the filter could be causing low water pressure?

It was last changed about 18 months ago.

The water to the water dispenser comes out fine.

I have a saddle valve to the intake for the fridge. I heard that these do not provide good pressure. Is this true? If it is, what type should I use?

This has been happening off and on for several years.

I cleaned and put the water valve back on 2 days ago, and it has been working fine.

Thanks again, Tom

The saddle type valves are known to cause low pressure because of the small opening.

You should use and in line shut off valve that you can get at a plumbing store.
