Default Whirlpool moved-now it has the flu
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: ED22RFXFW01
Age: 5 - 10 years

Hi all,
My problem is like a couple I've read here but with a couple differences so I'm going to toss this out here to you all. Sorry if it is long but y’all want “details”….

I recently moved only 4 miles up the road (using "professional" movers.) I couldn't understand why Sears had little trouble delivering my refrigerator but these movers took an hour to get it out of my kitchen! This poor refrigerator (purchased new in 2001) was turned every direction imaginable en route out of my previous home (one floor) and up the 3 floors to its 2nd home. It wasn’t until later that I read how a refrigerator should not be laid flat. Upon delivery it was discovered how one of the shelves had lodged itself into the door so the door wouldn’t open. Since I couldn’t use but just the freezer for those first couple of weeks I never knew how the refrigerator side was cooling, or not. After I gave up on hearing back from the movers I finally loosened the door enough to fix the shelving; initially all seemed normal (except for the exterior damage it now has.

Then I noticed my arm almost getting burned wile reaching into the fridge side. This really confused my brain. The wall dividing the freezer and fridge was downright hot (no “warm” about it.) It was ten that the fridge started losing it’s cool. Within 2 weeks from that my ice cream bars turned to mush. I can turn both sides up but I am running out of how much more I can adjust them, and it doesn’t negate the fact that I have a problem somewhere but am not quite sure where.

* My coils seem slightly warm to the touch, and are clean (at least for as far as my eye can see from the front.)
* 2-3 years ago I did replace the relay switch I’ve seen mentioned.
* I have noticed that it doesn’t seem to be as loud as it was in its other home.

Can you please shed some light on what I should be checking? With the dents and scrapes now visible to me, I can only imagine what treatment the back and/or bottom could have endured. With all the moving expenses I’ve since incurred, if this is the result of shoddy delivery work I’d like to know, hopefully without the cost of a repair service charge just to be told what is wrong. If it can be fixed reasonably, I’ll go ahead and deal with it.

THANKS in advance!!

One detail you left out
Is your condenser fan under the fridge running?

Usually a fridge can be moved on it's side but should be left upright and unplugged for 24 hours. This allows the oil to drain back down into the compressor.

Here is your parts breakdown

That was fast!
I left that part out because I hadn't gotten there yet. A friend just came over with a compressor to blow out what lint had accumulated in the back and sure enough - the cardboard underneath the fan somehow had wedged itself up into the fan. Just a minor scare after amending that and plugging it back in - it just stood there and did nothing. After about 5 minutes, the fan came back on and cooled that freezer/fridge divider wall almost instantly.

You guys are the Best! I read this site whenever the need arises and am really glad I finally signed up. Also, thanks for the links. :-)
