Whirlpool energyguide efficiency?

I need to buy a new top freezer refrigerator and was wondering what has changed in the last 8 years.
My 8 year old 21 cu ft Whirlpool has a rating of 750kWh/year.
The new 21 cu ft Whirlpool has a rating of 442kWj/year so what changed?
The box looks the same so don’t think they added insulation.

For one thing compressors are much more efficient now. They may have changed the way the figure the usage.
