Default Where is the "cold control"? What does it look like?
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 253.9137180
Age: More than 10 years

Hi, I'm hoping someone can be of assistance to me. I have an older Sears Kenmore 7 chest freezer. It was still working great until recently when it suddenly just stopped. I think one of the kids may have unplugged it and not told me but instead just plugged it back in maybe.

Anyway, a friend looked at it and said I need a run capacitor (?). Ok, so I bought one and that's not it. Now I'm stuck with the part because the parts store won't do refunds. Now I'm told it may be my cold control is open. What does that mean? I need to repair this and obviously I have to do it myself. I can't afford a repair person but I need this freezer to work since I have kids. 4 kids=lots of food!

When I plug it in the light comes on but it makes no sounds and it does not get cold. It doesn't kick on.

Can someone please help? If I could see a picture of this cold control thing I could maybe find it on the freezer.

Jenna

The cold control is the unit that make the freezer shut off when it reaches the proper temperature and turn it back on when the temperature go up.

The control can be located on the back next to one of the hinges or down by the compressor.

It will have a long tube called a capillary tube and two wires on it.

It is very important not to damage the capillary tube on the new control.

Here is a link to the parts for your freezer model 253.9137180.
