While trying to remedy a 'too-warm' freezer malfunction (another thread) I noticed the icemaker was not functoning and the water was not in the icemaker compartment. My lack of knowledge makes me curious...

Question is; what makes this thing function? Obviously if it is not cold enough it will not freeze the water into ice, but what makes it sense letting water into the tray and what makes it know when to dump the ice?
