Unhappy Water in my freezer: where's it coming from?
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 1 - 4 years

Just bought a new house. Freezer door pops open if fridge closed too vigorously. Have a 3 year old. Taped the freezer door shut with packing tape to avoid problem. But repeatedly, open freezer door to find floor of freezer flooded with water or ice. seems to develop very rapidly (e.g., I put a soda in there to get it cold fast, opened it an hour later to find water starting to freeze over half the freezer floor).

What gives? Icemaker does not appear connected; plug from it is pulled out, and we see no water connection in rear. Can this simply be condensation? If so, what's causing it? Seems suspicious that it is clearly forming on the icemaker side of the freezer.

Any help appreciated. Will figure out model number etc if that is somehow helpful!

You have a leaky water solenoid in the back; Just remove and replace or shut water off to it.

Default freezer problem continues

still trying to figure out where the solenoid is...manual not much help. Here's what's happened meanwhile:
1) as far as we can find, there is no water connection to the freezer
2) the icemaker is turned "off", with the bucket beneath it (now)
3) another episode of freezing water (though less than before) occured on the floor of the freezer; since the ice bucket is beneath the maker, and no water was in it, apparently water is coming from somewhere other than icemaker
4) there is a six-prong plastic plug leading from the icemaker into the back of the freezer. previously, this was unplugged. So I plugged it back in.
5) - so we've changed two variables, the plug (whatever it is), and the ice bucket.
Could the solenoid explanation still hold? If so, any clues where it is?

on the bottom of the freezer, in the back, are two things that look sort of like vents; this is where the water seems to appear first (though only on the icemaker side)

thanks again for any help!

You have a frozen drain. Remove freezer back panel and start defrosting all the ice.
I use a turkey baster to apply boiling water right at the drain hole. Once cleared I use a wire to verify no foreihn objects in the drain tube.
