Default Water leaking through top of freezer
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: ZISB42DYB
Age: 5 - 10 years

Well, I'm new to the forum, and I have an interesting problem I don't think I'm going to like to look into.
Got home from work today and the wife showed me a problem she thought was with the ice maker. There are five 1/4" fingers of ice running down the inside of the freezer from top to bottom. They go around the icemaker, but actually start at the seam where the left inside wall of the freezer meets the top of the freezer- it is a bent overlapping screwed piece of sheetmetal, and the water was running in from above.
I checked as best I could above, beside and below the unit, and wherever it is leaking, it is staying in the freezer compartment.
The left 1/3 of the top area is sealed off from the compressor and coils, and I can't easily see anything, and I haven't messed with anything yet.
The unit is a GE Monagram, shallow depth, full built-in, top compressor, water and ice in freezer door.
Oh, it is still running fine, the water in the door is still working, but my wife flipped the icemaker off and I haven't restarted it yet.

I consider myself reasonably handy with appliances, but not sure where to even start with this one. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Your ice makers water fill tube (#7561 on your diagram) could be stopped up with ice because the water inlet valve keeps leaking after filling the ice tray. Check your valve here Refrigerator Repair Guide: How to Check the Water Inlet Valve - ACME HOW TO.com

If that's not it , maybe this.
Looking at this diagram of your model GE ZISB42DYB Parts List near the top your can see the evaporator coils which are behind the sheet metal you mentioned. When the freezer goes into the defrost cycle the ice on these coils melt and drips down into the drain pan and exits the freezer through the drain tube # 5603 on the diagram and goes to a pan under the refrigerator.

sir try to defrost your unit first. lower the icemaker thermostat setting. if still same trouble, you have a water flow sequence trouble. probably you have a shorted microswitch which energized the water solenoid or the timer itself is deffective.
