Default Water Ice dispensor problems
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: GSL25IFRBS
Age: 1 - 4 years

Over the last few weeks (until yesterday), when I try to get crushed or cubed ice, it only works half of the time at best. The light bulb (in the dispenser area) would go dim when the lever is pushed with a glass, and nothing would happen. Then sometimes the bulb would come back to 100% brightness - until I pushed the dispenser lever again. The water would still dispense, but only after a second with the bulb going dim, then the light would come back to 100% brightness. Now, starting yesterday, no water comes out either. I'm guessing it's the solenoid (PS1483583) sticking or freezing up, which would explain the draw on the electricity, etc., so I'm going to replace it. According to the two reader-posted experiences at this Partselect.com review page for the Solenoid part, the way to get to it is from the back and that it's not that difficult - is there any advice anyone would give me about this kind of project? For example, is removing the rubber seal (the first step) easy to do without damaging it?

You will need to replace the main control board that is located at the back of the fridge.

It is not the solenoid.

Here is a link to your fridge model GSL25IFRFBS.

You may want to read some of the other post on the GE fridge problem.

Then call General Electric
US 1-800-626-2005 Canada 1-877-959-8688.

Thanks Sheila - I appreciate your reply on this. I found that info out on another thread here and called GE to get it repaired (sorry - I should've posted that I found the problem's solution sooner). Calling GE's Service Center brought me to a rep who knew nothing about the motherboard - I had to call the 1-800 number specifically for the defect to get them to acknowledge the problem. They came out and fixed it for free, and everything is working fine now. The capacitors on the bad board were bulging quite badly, and he said that he'd seen many of those bad boards and that he knew what the problem was as soon as he saw my model of refrigerator... Note to anyone calling GE for help on this - call 1-800-694-8477. Tell them what's up and they'll know exactly what to do about this. Again, this board was a life saver - it saved me a LOT of trouble. Thanks!
