Default Water flood from ice machine
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: MSD2456DE
Age: 5 - 10 years

I have a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator that had a leak. I woke up this morning and found the kitchen floor flooded with water. It looked as if the water was coming from the ice machine. The water leaked out the ice dispenser hole into the floor and also down into the freezer. Now the ice machine and the water does not work. It appears neither is getting water now.

Flooded and Confused

Default

The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear or low water pressure it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. The water can then go directly to the ice bin and overflow. You can take the tube off the valve and watch to see if it drips.
