Default Water dripping in refrigerator
Brand: Hotpoint
Model Number: CTHY16CRLRWH
Age: 5 - 10 years

I believe the tube leading from the freezer in the back of the refrigerator is clogged or ? as there is no water going down to the drip pan under the refrigerator. Water is dripping from the top of the refrigerator (bottom of freezer) into and on the merchandise on the shelves in the interior of the refrigerator.

In the "old" days the tube was on the outside and one could clean it out if it got 'gunky'. Now the tube is inside the back wall and I don't know how to get to it to see if it is clogged.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

The upper end will be in the tray under the evaporator coils in the freezer. Maybe behind the back panel. It will be covered with ice so clean the ice out to find it. When you see the tube thaw the ice with hair dryer and use air pressure to clear the entire tube. Some use those basting bulbs or put a tube that fits the hole and blow. Make sure it drains fast enough by pouring water in it and watch it drain. A little liquid bleach poured through it will kill the stuff at the bottom that starts clogging it up.

Very common, it seems. The drain right at the Freezer is clogged.

You need to empty the freezer and unscrew the plastic 'floor', probably have to unscrew the back panel as well.
I bet you will find a layer of ice under the plastic 'floor' and the hose all frozen over.
Warm water and sponging will help defrost the entire bottom of the Freezer, then more water for the hose. My drain hose had ice in it for about 3".
If you have some copper wire at home ( 12 gage that's used in the walls Romex) , you can take a few wraps on the defrost coil that's right there and run it down the drain hose, that will help keep things from freezing up.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. It sounds logical that this is the problem and I will try and fix it this weekend.

If your Frig is like mine, Be careful of the Square Styrofoam pieces that surround the Area where the cold air feeds the refrigerator ( that's wher ethe water is dripping from) they are delicate.
Good luck. AFter you start getting the Floor of teh freezer melting, sometimes a smack with the palm of your hand will break it up so you can take the ise out in sheets.
Good luck
