Default Water Dispensor making loud humm / buzz
Brand: General Electric
Model Number: TFX22jr
Age: 5 - 10 years

The GE fridge we have is a side by side with the freezer on the left. In the freezer door is the water/ice cube dispensor.

This afternoon the electric (valve, relay, ...) started with a really loud humming. It's vibrating the door.

The buzz stops when we open the door (trip switch at base of door). When we close it again it starts up. juggling the door changes the vibration level, and sometimes it returns to a dull humm.

I'd like to just replace the relay/valve/solonoid whatever it is, but I'm not able to find the right part on the manual.

Is there a tech page where I can look up common problems for this model and the darn water dispersor?

Also, disassembled the freezer interior covering to get to the back of the water dispensor where the noise is coming from, but the casing surrounding the unit looks to be build (packed) into the door using foam insulation.

What parts do you suggest for a job like this?
where can i find a manual on how to take that casing off without ruining the unit???

Ok...

So i figured out you DON'T have to take off the whole back inner liner of the fridge to get to the mechanics of the water dispenser... (would be nice to see that in the FAQ). Now thwe problem is replacing the actual part

Access to the GE water deispenser mechanics is in the front. You have to "pop" off the GE faceplate, and unscrew four philips screws to loosen the housing with all the electricals.

As I feared, the dumb solonoid or control relay (whatever it is), went bad.. Once I unplugged it (controls the water dispenser pump, ice tray augur motor...) then the buzz stopped.

Now. What is that thing called, and how do I order a new one?
