Default Water dispenser stopped
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: FRS26ZRFW3
Age: 5 - 10 years

A few wks ago, I was noticing water at front of fridge. Found that the water tank had crack where tube attached, and frozen water was on floor in fridge (under crisper) and water in tank was frozen. Replaced the tank with the "Tube" tank kit. Water dispenser worked fine for a week and now doesn't dispense water. Also noticed ice maker isn't making ice. Doesn't look like there is frozen water in tube. Filter was just replaced a couple of months ago. I removed it and put it back on, but still no water. Any help would be appreciated!

Check to see it you are getting power to the water valve.

If you are getting power to the valves check the valve for continuity.

Make sure the line is not frozen.

If the line was frozen in the fridge section do you have other thing freezing?

I turned down the temp in the fridge, as I noticed some things did freeze in the crisper a bit. It sounds like the power is going to the water dispenser. I took the tube off and tried the water. Water did squirt out, but then stopped. checked water pressure and cleaned filter at inlet. How do I check the power to the valve? I don't have a volt meter. Is there a compressor that pumps the water? Could that be shot? Before I had replaced the tank, the dispenser wouldn't spit out water for first 5 seconds. After I replaced filter, some improvement, but still a few seconds pause. In hindsight, possibly signs of something breakin' down?

If thing are freezing in the fridge the new tube tank is likely frozen.

There is no pump just your water pressure.

If you listen to the valve at the back of the fridge while someone else pushes the lever for water you may be able to hear if it is working.

Sorry. Didn't clarify. The freezing happened before replacing tank. Since then, no freezing probably since I turned temp down. Didn't hear any buzz when button pushed. Just the hum of fridge working. Guess the next step is to replace water valve? Is it hard to do? Looks like I just unscrew it and attach wires?

Ruby
it does sound like a bad solenoid (water) valve. It would be better to be sure. A volt meter does not cost much or better yet a neon test light is only a couple of bucks and will tell if power is going to the valve. just unplug the connector to the valve and touch the lights probes to the terminals inside the connector while some one operates the valve. Carefull you don't touch any exposed metal on the probe.
Some times these valves get packed full of hard water junk and they can be cleaned but its sort of a pain and new valves aren't expensive. good luck
ps you are right, itis easy to do just unplug the fridge, turn off the water, "unscrew it and attach the wires"

Thanks. I ordered the part and should get it soon. Of course, soon after I ordered it, the ice maker started working again! But some of ice is hollow so must be minimal water flow. No water yet. Anyway, I will let ya know how goes. Thanks again for help!
