Exclamation Water dispenser only works when water is entering ice maker
Brand: Frigidaire
Model Number: PLRS267ZAB6
Age: 5 - 10 years

The water dispenser on my Frigidaire PLRS267ZAB6 suddenly quit working. When I press the actuator the the filter light comes on as normal to indicate water is being dispensed but no water comes out. I held the actuator in for a couple minutes in case there was no water in the line. I verified the water supply is still there. The icemaker still dispenses ice. I did smell something like hot electonics but it was faint. I removed all of the ice from the ice tray and waited to see if new ice was made. When the ice tray fills with water the water dispenser also released water without the actuator being depressed which spilt all over. So I raised the lever in the ice maker trayso no more ice would be made. I saw another post similar to this but know definate solution was found. Can anyone tell me what the problem is. Could it be a valve in the back that controls water flow to the freezer or water despensor? Could it be something with the front panel electronics? Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

I would begin with testing the water inlet valve.>>>Refrigerator Repair Guide: How to Check the Water Inlet Valve - ACME HOW TO.com

I finally got around to fixing the fridge and found that I had a bad pc board. After replacing the board the water dispenser works. But now when you press the water lever water comes out of the dispenser and water also fills the ice tray and spills into the freezer. Also when the ice tray auto fills water also comes out of the water dispenser. I found another post that had a similar problem. The problem was the diode going to the valves. I think I have the same problem. How do I find the correct part? I can't find it with the part search. Here is the other thread that had the problem and someone suggested the part. Can someone please help me find the correct diode part. http://forums.partselect.com/refrige...nser-3072.html

Also I replaced the water valve so I know that valves are good, well atleast they should be since it is new.

I checked the valves and they were good. The pc board was bad so I replaced that. Now the water works but when the actuator is pressed water comes out the water dispenser and the ice maker. Also when the ice maker fills with water on its own, water also comes out the dispenser. I think the problem is the diode in the valve wiring harness. On this other thread http://forums.partselect.com/refrige...nser-3072.html
the person suggested a diode replacement kit and gave a part number for it. Mine is a similar frigidaire model. Does anyone know the part/part# I need. I've tried searching for the part but couldn't see anything.

Default got it fixed

I did finally get the problem fixed. The problem was the diode. I found a diode kit and installed the new diode. Not too difficult. I added a write-up on it to my website. (Refrigerator Ice Maker Fills With Water When Water Dispenser Is Used) I've included the instructions that came with the part.

I have the same problem with my Frigidaire FRS26F4CW1. I have the same Diode kit. I am not sure how to get to the wiring to replace the Diode.

Can someone point me in the right direction? How do I get to wiring, from inside or backside of the frig? I looked at the user manual PDF file, but it is unclear of where the wiring is located. Any help would be much appreciated.

The wiring harness for mine is located within 6 inches of the water valves on the back of the refrigerator. On the back lower part of the fridge where the water supply line goes there is usually a cover that you can remove to expose the water valves, compressor, condensor, and fan. When I unbolt the water valves from the fridge you can pull the valves out a little without unhooking any water lines. The diode should be in the wiring that goes to the valves and it should be really close to where the wiring connects to the valves. Hope this helps.
