Default Water dispenser not shutting off after water filter change
Brand: Kenmore
Age: 5 - 10 years

Just replaced the water filter on my Kenmore side by side (could not locate model and S/N) and now the water dispenser does not shut off for 2-5 seconds after removing glass. All worked fine prior to replacing filter.

Any help woule be appreciated.

Your model and serial number can be found in the fridge section on a tag.

Finally located the model # on the ceiling of the fridg compartment - about the only place that I had not looked.

Model # 253.50684000
S/N LA03113752
Date of Mfg - 08-00

thought that ther may have been air in the water line that caused the problem. Ran several gallons of water thru the dispenser - still the same problem.

When switch is engaged, water seems to hesitate a couple of seconds before starting to flow and then flows a couple of seconds after switch is disengaged.

U got air in the line more than like caused by improper filter install. If unit is spitting water reinstall filter and try again. Track down the air.

No spitting from water dispenser - same flow as before filter was changed. Re-installed filter and ran a minimum of 3-4 gal of water thru the line. Still have the same problem.

Check the switch area for sticky substance like pop or juice it could be causing the switch to stick a little after the glass is removed.

Switch looked pretty clean. Wiped down with a little soapy water. Still hesitates a couple of seconds after engaging the switch before the water starts to flow and the water flows a second or two after releasing. Should I go buy a new filter and see if that would help?

I don't think it is the filter that is causing your problem.

You may have a sticky inlet valve.

The valve is locate at the back of the fridge.

One solenoid is for the ice maker and the other is for the water dispenser.

The solenoid valves are closed by water pressure so if it is sticking it will not close as fast as it should.

Shelia,

There was one other problem that my wife had not mentioned - enough water was collecting in the bottom of the fridge that she was wiping it up every 4-6 days. Found a small leak in the drinking water reservoir. Seems that quite a few of these fridges have a water reservoir leaking problem. You cannot buy a new reservoir. Sears sells a replacement kit ($85.00) that consists of about 20' of 3/8" plastic and reducing connections to connect to the lines in the fridge. I cheaped out and bought hose and connections at Home Depot for less than $15.00.

Both problems fixed!

Thanks for the help.
