Arrow Water dispenser on door keeps running
Brand: Whirlpool
Model Number: gd27dfxfw00
Age: 5 - 10 years

Okay, well my old fridge went kaput and I replaced it with the above model Whirlpool Gold. My new fridge is used, but seemed to be in very good condition.

It did not come with a water filter installed so I got the right one and installed it.
I turned on the water to the fridge from the water line and it now leaks out of the dispenser when the dispenser lever is not depressed.
When I do press on the dispenser, it dispenses more water as if the switch (or whatever) is turning on but it will not stop leaking when it is not pressed.

I have not messed with the icemaker yet to see if the water runs continuously to it, I am waiting for my wife to get home so I do not have a wet and FROZEN mess.

What the heck is going on?

Please help

What I mean is- If the ice maker overflows can I be pretty sure that this is the problem? It seems like a simple thing to repair or replace in any case.

Are the water inlet valves pretty universal? Is this different from the solenoid?

The first thing you want to check is whether or not you are getting water to the Icemaker when you depress the water dispenser. You can verify this by haven your wife press the dispenser button while you hold down the switch that controls the light to the freezer. If no water goes into the ice maker while this is bean done then your problem is less complex. It means that water is leaking by the solenoid valve. Replace the valve and you problem fix. The valve is located at the back of the refrigerator lower right corner. Here is a link of what it looks like.
