Default Water dispenser doesnt work ,but icemaker still does
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.57577791
Age: 5 - 10 years

icemaker still fills up, so the water supply is functional. Pulled the output side tubing off the solenoid valve for the dispenser, and tried the water dispenser and nothing. Am I to assume that the solenoid is faulty>? Is there any other way to confirm this through a voltage test at the solenoid? I have a voltmeter but not sure how to test the solenoid with it. Could the door dispeneser switch be faulty?

The solenoid switch is basically an electromagnet coil. Shut off power to fridge and disconnect at least one solenoid power lead. Then check for continuity from one terminal to the other. If no continuity, it is probably bad.

My bet is on the door dispenser switch. I just noticed same symptoms with my KitchenAid. The water dispenser started acting erratically, then quit. When working, the illuminating lamp lights, but not when dispenser fails. I have not started trouble shooting yet. Does anyone know if the lamp is in series with the solenoid?? (that would mean lamp acting as a fuse)
