I have the same model refrigerator with the same problem since last November. After 1 to 4 years, moisture gets inside the door around the water line to your water dispenser. This breaks down the insulation, and an ice plug forms inside the water line about 4 or 5 inches from the outlet of your water dispenser. This is a generic problem with GE And Hotpoint side by side refrigerators. Those with metal doors can be fixed with a water line heater that GE or you can add after removing the dispenser panel. Your refrigerator has plastic doors and foamed-in doors and no heater can be added on the water line.
I tried using a wire to break up the plug. No luck. I was able to use a hair dryer to melt the plug. If you don't remove the dispenser panel and flap, you risk melting the flap and other thin plastic in the dispenser. I was able to remove the plug by applying heat directly to the water spout about 10 minutes after removing the dispenser panel and flap and by also applying heat about 10 minutes directly to the area behind the water outlet from the inside of the freezer door. The plug was not returned in the last 2 days, but has before last November after melting it out. I also raised the freezer temperature from 5 to 2. if you have any questions about any of this, let me know. Good luck. |
