SOLUTION! (at least for me) Upon looking at other posts, I decided to check out the front micro switches. As soon as I had the front cover off, the problem presented itself.
In looking at the micro switch housing, there are two VERY FRAIL tabs that keep the switch in place so the water dispenser arm can activate the electronic switch. One of the tabs that holds the micro switch was broken and no longer securing the switch. This allowed the switch unit to be moved, rather than engaging the small micro switch itself.
I removed the housing, super glued the support tab back onto the door, replaced the micro switch and VOILA! Water was working again.
It is easy to see how this can be broken. I have small children (and I myself have done this) and we all have pressed WAY TOO HARD on the water/ice dispenser arm lever. This is what creates the pressure and ultimately broke the small support tab that ensures the micro switch is engaged. I have since "trained" my family as to be gentle with the dispenser arm so we can avoid this problem in the future.
Lastly, I have uploaded a couple of pictures that hopefully explains this as well. The images are with my camera phone, not great, but you can get a good idea of the small support tab that was broken. |
