Default Warm fridge/freezer fine
Brand: Kenmore
Model Number: 106.55616400
Age: 1 - 4 years

Hello all,

First off what a great forum!!!--very helpful. I think mine is a common problem. Kenmore Elite side by side just out of warranty. Freezer great, fridge warm. Some ice in the vent left upper corner of fridge as well as lower left vent. I don't think I have a mechanical defrost timer that I can force since control panel is computerized. Not sure where bi-metal thermostat is. Have not yet cleaned out freezer but have minor ice on back wall. What do you think I should try first (short of calling a repair-person). Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Your manual may have instructions on how to force a defrost. The defrost thermostat is clamped onto the evaporator coil behind the back panel in the freezer.

Default Thanks Woodchuck

My wife and I are going to take everything out of the freezer tonight and I will take the back wall off. I'm sure there will be a bunch of ice back there. There is nothing in the manual on how to force a defrost. I saw in another thread people trying to hit the freezer door button 5 times in six seconds but that did nothing for me. I'm just hoping it's nothing like the control panel computer board. I can deal with changing a thermostat or something like that. Thanks in advance for anyone with ideas.
