Exclamation Using fan because condensor fan doesnt always work and fridge stopped recyling?
Brand: Please select
Age: 5 - 10 years

Have a fridgidaire gallery side by side and the condensor fan needs a small tap for it to start spinnnig. Thing is that doesnt last long, it soon stops again so I got a floor fan to put by the condensor so it wont get hot. I just did this yesterday.

I then realizzed that the fridge isnt making all those funky sounds anymore. There is no recyling going on I dont believe. And the freezer part just doesnt seem that cold anymore.

WHy is this happening? I cant do anything till Monday and Im worried about the food thawing.

P.S.
Everyone says that when the condesnor fan goes it seizes. The fan spins real easy. That is why I havent gotten a new one yet. What if theres another reason the fan decides to slow down and stop altogether till I tap it.

That is exactly how mine went out. Replace the fan.

Is the compressor motor near that fan running.
Are the coils warm ,cold or hot.

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. stopped up? clear? ice in one spot . frost everywhere.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

No. Nothing is frozen. It a frost free fridge anyway. I believe the condensor is fine. I mean it get pretty hot unless I keep that fan on. and the fridge is fine temp.

I always thought fans had to seize. So its probably the fan. I got a quote of 157 for this motor from a store. Yet I was told by a few people it should be about 60.
