Unusual Problem with Whirlpool Icemaker Brand: Whirlpool Model Number: ET8CHMXKQ01 Age: 1 - 4 years I'm having a strange problem with my Whirlpool icemaker (located in freezer of top and bottom fridge). The problem is that in one area, near the front of the icemaker, a dirty looking, grainy brown substance is leaking out into the ice bin (comes out in a frozen drop of water). Ice is being made as normal and the rest of the ice looks clean and normal (expect for cubes lying in the bin right under the area where the dirty stuff is leaking out onto them). I've tried cleaning the general area and have definitely determined that the dirty substance is not any type of food that was spilled on the icemaker. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now - I keep dumping the ice and cleaning the bin, but more of this brown substance keeps coming out of the machine. All the rest of the ice and the water coming out of the faucet looks clean, so I don't think it has anything to do with the water line. The Whirlpool manual for my particular model does not contain instructions on disassembling the ice maker, not does it recommend any cleaning methods. I already spoke with Whirlpool by phone and they were unable to help me. Has anyone ever heard of this problem, and do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks - I appreciate any help you can provide! |
